Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2028
Civita di Bagnoregio and Bolsena will share the title in 2028. Italy’s Ministry of Culture announced it on 12 October 2026.
Arte che viene, arte che va
The winning project, Art that comes, art that goes, was presented by the two towns together, joining Civita to the history and landscape of Lake Bolsena. It was chosen over Capri, Padova and Pozzuoli.
What the title will bring
- 35 permanent works of public art and four regenerated public spaces.
- Tuscia Route 01, a new path of about 15 km for walking and cycling between Civita and Bolsena.
- Artists including Carsten Höller, Eva Jospin, Chiara Camoni and Nico Vascellari, working with Associazione Arte Continua, and an open call for young artists.
- Baleno, a travelling workshop bus designed by Tobias Rehberger with Fondazione Reggio Children.
The programme runs from now to 2028 and is meant to last beyond the title year.
What it means if you are looking for a home here
Over the next two years the area around Civita and the lake will gain new public art and a new route linking the two. We will share news about the programme here as it takes shape, and we are happy to talk about it on our tours.
